This study explores key aspects of China’s future demand for energy,  particularly from LNG,  under three distinct policy scenarios. A final policy simulation (i.e. composite policy scenario) integrates the three separate policy scenarios. Compared with the three individual scenarios, the composite policy is an attempt to balance between the objectives of strong economic growth, lower carbon emissions, environmental benefits and energy security.
